Come and enjoy the first traditional festival of the year in Barcelona! This year “Sa Pobla” festival starts with a lot of free things to do! Don’t miss a minute! Come to Barcelona and do it with Be Hostels!
Every year during the last weekend of January, the funky neighborhood of Gràcia in Barcelona hosts an equally funky festival Sa Pobla. This popular festival honors Saint Anthony (Sant Antoni), the patron saint of animals. Mallorcan culture is also celebrated in the form of traditional foods (think tasty Sobrasada) and festivities. “Los Foguerons” (the bonfires) are perhaps the most famous part of the Sa Pobla festival. Gràcia’s plazas fill with colourful processions and red devils.
Catalan festivals are not complete unless there is a correfoc (fire run). And if people wearing devil horns running through the streets with fireworks wasn’t enough fire for one evening, you can find nine bonfires throughout Gràcia.
The most famous moment in festival is for bonfires, parades and giant dragons, which occur in many places in the district.
These open spaces and crowds, serving as theatrical platforms where street performers dressed in outlandish masks, create an atmosphere of magic and mystery, evoking the oldest traditions of the people of Mallorca and their deepest beliefs. Do not want to miss the shows in Plaça del Diamant, Virreina and Nord. In addition, there you have the pleasure of delighting your palate with a fabulous sobrasada, to try the unique taste of Majorcan food.
