Another weekend in Barcelona plus good weather equals some outdoor activity! As you might already seen, Barcelona has a lot to offer in terms of parks and the parc del Laberint d’Horta is the one that Be Hostels is presenting to you today!
An historical garden in the Horta-Guinardó district in Barcelona, this lovely park features a nice labyrinth as it main attraction. It’s also the oldest park of its kind in the city and features an 18th century neoclassical garden and a 19th century romantic garden that present a nice alternative to Park Güell.
Speaking about it’s history, the works began in 1791 when marquis Joan Antoni Desvalls i d’Ardena, owner of the lot, created the design of the garden in collaboration with Italian architect Domenico Bagutti. In mid-19th century, the descendants of the marquis expanded the park, creating the romantic garden with flower beds, gazebos, huge trees and a waterfall. A water canal was also added to the garden, connecting the upper terrace and the intermediate one. Finally in 1967 the Desvalls family handed over the park to the city of Barcelona, who opened it to the public in 1971.
So if you want to stroll around, chill a bit around some green, climb up that hill and get lost in there!
P.s: A curious fact about the park: it was used to shot a scene of the movie Perfume.
